The most trafficked mammal you've never heard of

Pangolins

Today, in celebration of World Wildlife Day, we want to highlight one of our favorite animals: pangolins.

Some call them walking pine cones and some say they look like a cross between an artichoke and an anteater. Never heard of them? Well, believe it or not, they’re thought to be the most trafficked mammal in the world!

Yes, you heard that right. Pangolin parts are traded illegally more often than elephant ivory or rhino horn. More than one million of these creatures have been killed in the last decade for their scales, which are used in traditional medicine. Black market sales have skyrocketed, and poaching has hit them so hard that two Asian species are now critically endangered, and four African species are vulnerable.Pangolins could go extinct without most of the world even noticing.

Now is the time to save them, before it’s too late. Please, check out our Don’t Buy Wild map and then take action by signing our Don’t Buy Wild pledge.

Pangolins shouldn’t be sacrificed for unproven health tonics. Don’t buy pangolin products and Don’t Buy Wild.
