A few months later than expected, the outrageously expensive presidential jet for Enrique Peña Nieto will be delivered between Friday October 10 and 11, 2014. The TP-01 Dreamliner 787 was expected to cost approximately $580M and is the most expensive plane of its kind, more costly than planes belonging to presidents of the United States, China, Russia or Germany. The initial planning allegedly began with former President Felipe Calderón, but was carried out by Enrique Peña Nieto, sparking controversy and fury amongst the people of Mexico.
Sources from the company that equipped the plane told the newspaper Excelsior, that the jet has the most innovative security features in the market as well as modifications in spaces like kitchens, bathrooms and seats. Additionally they assured the plane is ready to fly fromDallas to Mexico within these two days and will be handed over to the Mexican President.
